On September 1, 2022, the gun laws in New York State changed including firearms training and licensing requirements. New York State has not only made the process to own a firearm extremely complicated to understand, but it has also increased its licensing fees while making the renewal date of the firearms license shorter.
Equilibrium Firearms will continue to professionally train and assist our students in the licensing process. While New York State continues to make the process complicated, our commitment to making the licensing process easy and understandable is way stronger! Licensing and training requirements may change county to county.
Eligibility: In order to be eligible to apply for a firearms license in New York State/City, Nassau or Suffolk County you must be a resident of New York State or have a business need in New York State/City. You also must apply for the firearms license in the County you live in. If you live out of state but are a business owner in NYS/NYC, or you are a person who needs to work with a firearm in NYS/NYC, you may be eligible for the firearms license for “possess / carry during employment” only.

NY City/State, Nassau & Suffolk County Pistol License Applicant Requirements & Determinations
The Applicant Must:
- Be at least 21 years of age (this rule does not apply if the applicant has been honorably discharged from the US Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, or the National Guard of New York.)
- Be of good moral character
- Have no prior conviction for a felony or other serious offense, as defined in Section 265 of Penal Law
- Not be a fugitive.
- Not be an unlawful user or addicted to any controlled substance defined in section 21 U.S.C. 802
- Not be illegally or unlawfully residing in the United States.
- Not have been discharged from the Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions.
- Not have had a license revoked, be under suspension, or ineligibility order issued pursuant to the provisions of section 530.14 of the criminal procedure law or section 542-A of the Family Court Act.
- Not have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.
